How to load a car into a shipping container

Shipping a car by sea is one of the options when you’re moving overseas. You can take your dream car by any mode of conveyance that suits your budget. Air,Sea or land. Trying to look for cheap container shipping rates is part of moving operation.

Shipping your car in a container can be a better solution than a Roll on Roll off (Ro Ro) service for a number of reasons including the type of vehicle you have to ship, your intended destination or it may simply be your preference to use a container to ship your car. Unlike Ro Ro services, if you have some personal items or perhaps spare parts you also need to ship, these can be shipped inside the container along with the car.

Making sure the car is clean

First and foremost, clean the car inside out. Making sure the car is clean on the outside allows customs to make a correct inspection, detailing any nicks or pre-existing damages to the car. When cleaning out the inside of the car, you should make sure to remove personal items (i.e. clothing, papers, and trash), non-factory electronics like GPS systems and stereos, and any items stored in the trunk.

At our loading facility your car is driven into the container and carefully positioned before all four wheels are safely chocked. Wheel chocks can be made from either metal or wood and when in place are screwed down to the floor of the container, ensuring saftey throughout the transit.

Preparation:

Preparing for RO-RO service takes the least amount of time between the international shipping options. Your car may need to be driven up and down the ramps for loading and unloading, so it will need some gasoline in it and the battery attached. Other shipping methods that don't require the car to be functional usually require that you remove all gasoline from the tank and disconnect the battery for safety reasons.

Convenience:

RORO service allows your car to be available and drivable as quickly as possible after a seafaring international move. The loading and unloading process is simple and quick compared to the sometimes tedious process of loading and unloading a car in and out of a container. You may even be able to drive your car right from the destination port if you had enough gas left in the tank.

The paperwork involved with car shipments varies. Make sure you give our post on the documents needed for shipping cars a read before you prepare your shipment. You must present original titles of cars to destination customs. If a vehicle is bought by the consignee before its international shipment, then the Bill of Sale should be presented at the destination as well. It is important to know your liability as a shipper, especially when shipping cars. Doing so can help with avoiding extra charges at the destination.
